3 Benefits of Screaming Into the Void
If you’ve been to Coalesce New Years, then sometime during the 72 hours of pumping house and techno you’ve probably heard people screaming at the top of their lungs in the dark of the desert. New Years is a special time for us which brings on a lot of emotions. As we take the time to pause and reflect during the last few days of the year it can be overwhelming, and yet extremely inspiring, as we prepare for the endless possibilities that await us.
When you scream into the desert abyss you completely let go, resulting in this intense rejuvenation. You now have a clear mind and can start properly planning for the new year. The best part about screaming into the void is that you can do it anywhere, and we’re here to explain the benefits of it!
Psychological & Physical Release
Screaming can be therapeutic, especially if you have a lot of pent up stress. When you scream it actually accesses a part of your brain that makes you "freak out” from stress, and alleviates you mentally. Stress hormones are released which helps release muscle tension throughout your body, leaving you feeling calm and with a sense of euphoria.
Bonding
One of the best parts of screaming into the void is venturing out into the dark with a friend. It’s a great bonding exercise that you can do with your best friend or with a stranger. “Hey, do you want to go scream into the void?” is not an uncommon question to hear amongst the fireside chatter, and five minutes later a huge “AAAAHHHHHHHHHH” echos through the desert air. New friendships are created and current relationships strengthened as conversations start with only a scream.
Personal Growth
Primal screaming can be scary. When we think about screaming into an open space, it is not the norm and most people might think you are crazy. Overcoming a violent scream is actually growth. It means you are facing the music of whatever is making you feel a certain way, and that you are dealing with it. The personal growth comes when that smile graces your face after the scream and you’re reassured that everything’s going to be okay. Sometimes you might get that cry that you didn’t want, but that you needed.
